Royal jelly flavor/taste?

i recently purchased RJ from a reputable health food store in the refrigerated section. it is creamy white/yellowish in color. I expected it to taste like honey and you can imagine my surprise when i took a spoonful!! it tasted like bitter spoiled milk!! is this normal??? i completely trust the source but wanna make sure??
